How can youth-led initiatives and workshops influence cultural development in cities with complex histories?

THE PROJECT

Kaunas was the European Cultural Capital in 2022 and served as the Temporary Capital between the two World Wars (1919–1940) after Poland annexed Vilnius. However, the label of being a pointless and counterproductive city still haunts the minds of those in Kaunas and beyond, even after eighty years. The aim of the Young Curators of Kaunas 2022 project was to engage young people in developing ideas for participatory cultural events as part of the Youth Season Highlight, which was the main event of the youth programs.

THE OUTCOME

Holis designed, facilitated, and assisted in managing the workshop in collaboration with the Kaunas2022 team. Our two facilitators, Dana Olarescu and Michala Lipkova, spent 40 online hours with the five teams, resulting in 9 participatory cultural event proposals.  Based on these presentations, the Kaunas2022 team selected the best projects and participants to participate in the final Kaunas workshop.

"Holis provided exceptional, 360-degree support for our project. They quickly grasped our vision and delivered a workshop that exceeded expectations. Their flexibility, strategic insight, and attention to detail made them an invaluable partner. I highly recommend them for high-level engagement workshops."
