THE PROJECT
The ECD Ecosystem Mapping project, based in Slovakia's Banská Bystrica region, is a collaborative effort led by the Banská Bystrica Regional Government (BBSK) and supported by information designer Ivett Kovács, data visualization UX/UI designer Michał Kociszewski, with the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University serving as an advisory partner. Together, these collaborators aimed to create a comprehensive ecosystem map for the region's early childhood development (ECD), using data-driven insights to enhance understanding and support for local ECD services.
THE OUTCOME
In close collaboration with the Banská Bystrica regional government, Holis has developed an ECD Ecosystem Map that identifies and emphasizes the current ECD network, including organizations and their services. The project's data-driven approach has helped map the needs of children and families, assisting government decision-making and ensuring better resource allocation. These resources empower the regional government to make more data-informed decisions for better ECD support.
